To promote the draft horse industry in Atlantic Canada, the New Brunswick Percheron
Association is organizing and hosting an “Atlantic Canada All Breed Draft Horse Futurity”.

What Is a Futurity?
The Futurity consists of the nomination of a filly or colt for auction, where through the
auction the horse becomes eligible to participate as a 2 year old in the Futurity event.
Prize money for the event comes from the funds allocated at the auction, plus the
sponsorship contributions.

Eligibility
Any Atlantic Canada born weanling filly or colt, can be either registered or non-
registered
Must be sired by a registered stud

Auction
Owners consign their eligible weanling(s) at the Futurity auction
The auction is held with high bid taking the colt or filly
The consignor is permitted to bid on their own horse
The selling price is divided as follows:
50% of the selling price goes to the consignor
50% of the selling price goes toward the futurity fund, Breeders Award Fund, and the
operating/administration expenses

Competition
The competition is held for those colts/fillies purchased at the sale 2 years prior
All Breeds will compete together – no breed division
3 judges will each award points in each class
3 classes:
Line Class
Cart Class
                           Pattern Class
Horses must compete in all three classes to qualify
Ranking determined using a Total Point System from all 3 judges with a Tiebreaker Judge
designated prior to the event

The Winners
Top 10 Placings are eligible for the Futurity Fund money
All accumulated money in the Futurity Fund for the associated year is awarded
Breeders of the Top 3 Placings are awarded thru the Breeders Award Fund for the
associated year

Sponsorship
Our goal is to obtain a sponsor(s) who will match, dollar for dollar, the consignors
investment in the futurity fund, 50% of the selling price from the auction.

Allocation of Funds (High Level Example)
10 weanlings are consigned at the auction at a fee of $25.00 each and sell for an average
of $1000.00 each.
Thus the Sale total equals:                         $ 10000.00
Payout to Consignors for the sale of the horses
50% of the sale price:                               - $  5000.00

Consignors Contribution to Futurity                                      $  5000.00

Sponsors contribution (equal to consignors contribution)        $  5000.00

Consignment fees from auction                                            $    250.00

Total investment in the Futurity fund                                     $10250.00
